What Is Marvel Rivals?
Marvel Rivals is a free online superhero shooting game. You pick a Marvel hero and fight in teams of 6 against another team of 6. Think of it like a superhero tug,of,war , except everyone has superpowers.
Launch Date: December 6, 2024 that is less than 2 years ago. Within just 3 weeks of launch, the game was downloaded 20 million times across all platforms.
Can You Play With Friends on Different Devices? (Crossplay)
Yes! This is called
Yes! This is called crossplay. It means a player on PlayStation can play with a friend on Xbox or PC in the same game. Marvel Rivals supports this across
4 platforms: PC (Steam/Epic), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox Series X/S.
Think of it like this: imagine 4 different schools. Crossplay lets students from all 4 schools join the same sports team. That is exactly what Marvel Rivals does.
Quick Facts:
- Crossplay turns ON automatically the moment you install the game
- PlayStation 4 was added on September 12, 2025 , about 9 months after launch
- PC players CANNOT turn crossplay off
- Console players CAN turn it off in Settings > Social > Cross Platform toggle
- Nintendo Switch and mobile: NOT supported (no release planned yet)

Why Are PC and Console Players Separate in Ranked?
This is actually smart game design. Here is the reason:
Mouse + keyboard on PC gives players faster, more precise aiming. Game controllers on console use aimassist to help balance that. Mixing them in competitive ranked matches would be unfair , like putting a Formula 1 car against a regular car in the same race.
So NetEase kept them in different pools. If you make a squad with both PC and console friends, the game puts the whole group into the PC ranked pool. As players climb from Bronze to One Above All, many also become interested in the broader esports ecosystem and organizations that promote teamwork, leadership, and healthy competition, such as ProjectRethink.org Team Esports.
Marvel Rivals Ranks , All 9 Levels Explained
There are
There are 9 ranks and 23 total divisions in competitive mode. You start at Bronze III (the lowest) and climb toward One Above All (the top 500 players in the world).
To unlock ranked mode: You must reach account Level 15 first. That takes roughly 7 hours of casual gameplay.
| # | Rank Name | How Many SubLevels? | Special Rule |
| 1 | Bronze | 3 (III, II, I) | Chrono Shield protects you from dropping |
| 2 | Silver | 3 (III, II, I) | Learn team roles here |
| 3 | Gold | 3 (III, II, I) | Rewards start at Platinum , grind here |
| 4 | Platinum | 3 (III, II, I) | Exclusive skins unlock at Platinum III |
| 5 | Diamond | 3 (III, II, I) | Hero bans begin , 2 bans per team |
| 6 | Grandmaster | 3 (III, II, I) | Crest of Honor badge earned here |
| 7 | Celestial | 3 (III, II, I) | Point decay starts if inactive |
| 8 | Eternity | No sublevels | Rank drops if you stop playing |
| 9 | One Above All | Top 500 only | Dynamic , changes every day |
How points work: Each rank needs 100 points to advance. You earn roughly 2064 points per win and lose 1224 points per loss. A win streak gives you bonus points , like a combo multiplier in a video game.
Chrono Shield: This is your safety net in lower ranks. After several losses in a row, a shield activates and stops your rank from dropping. It recharges after a few matches.
Rank Reset: At the end of every season, your rank drops 6 divisions. So if you were Gold I, you restart from Bronze II. This keeps competition fresh every season.
Emma Frost , The White Queen (Added April 11, 2025)
Emma Frost joined the game on April 11, 2025 as the 38th hero. She is a Vanguard , the tank class in Marvel Rivals.
She has 2 forms you can switch between during a match:
- Psychic Form: Fires a telepathic beam, blocks enemy attacks with a 400point shield, and drops a mental bomb that punishes anyone who destroys it
- Diamond Form: She turns physically invulnerable, punches hard, kicks enemies into walls, and can grab + chokeslam opponents
Her ultimate ability (Psionic Seduction) mindcontrols an entire enemy team caught in her blast , and cancels their own ultimates miduse. Imagine pressing a pause button on 6 enemies at once.
TeamUp: Emma + Magneto + Psylocke = Mental Projection. Each ally conjures an illusion of themselves that deals real damage. Magneto’s shield bubble duplicates, giving double protection.
Magik , The Portal Duelist (In Game Since Day 1)
Magik launched with the game on December 6, 2024. She is a Duelist , pure damage dealer. Her job is to teleport behind enemy healers, kill them fast, and escape before tanks can respond.
Season 6 stats: 55.3% win rate | 16.48% pick rate | Ranked #3 among all 26 Duelists.
Her key abilities:
- Soulsword: Wide sword slash with a surprisingly large hit range , bigger than it looks
- Limbo’s Might (Passive): Every point of damage she deals converts 30% into bonus health, up to +150 extra HP. The more she attacks, the harder she is to kill
- Stepping Discs: 2 teleport charges, each making her invincible during travel. She can use both backtoback to cover 30 meters instantly
- Umbral Incursion: A forward dash that launches the first enemy it hits into the air , sets up a combo kill
- Darkchild (Ultimate): Transforms her into demon form for 12 seconds. All abilities boost in range and damage, and all cooldowns reset the moment she transforms
CrossProgression: Can You Share Your Skins Across Devices?
For the first 11 months of the game, the answer was NO. Your skins stayed on whichever device you bought them on.
That changed in November 2025 (Season 4.5/Season 5). NetEase added account linking. Now you go to Settings > Other > Account > Account Binding, connect your PC and console accounts, and pick 1 primary character. Your skins, currency, and heroes follow that character to any linked device.
What does NOT transfer: Your rank. Match history, leaderboard position, and rank points stay on the device where you earned them. Season rewards are based on your highest rank across any 1 device.
